Erythronium caucasicum
[5 seeds-zaden]

Erythronium caucasicum is a bulbous perennial plant native to the western and central Caucasus and the Alborz Mountains in North Iran. The earliest species of all to flower, in January. Large, pure white flowers over patterned leaves. This is related to dens-canis but it has substantially larger flowers that appear 6-8 weeks earlier. These have bright yellow pollen, (and not the blue pollen of dens-canis). Flowering stem up to 10-15 cm.
Seeds need to be sown early in the fall for germination. Sow seeds flat in any well drained, humus rich, leafy soil. Keep pots in a partially shaded spot outside. Seeds need a cooling period of several months prior to germination in early spring. Carefully transplant bulbs from mid summer to early autumn as soon as leaves have withered.
