Cowberry "Koralle"
[0.1 gram]

Vaccinium vitis-idaea or Cowberry is an evergreen Shrub growing to 30cm by 1m. It is in flower from May to June, and the fruits ripen from Aug to October. The mature fruits 6mm in diameter are eaten fresh or dried. They taste better after frost. Once they are about 5cm tall, prick the seedlings out into individual pots and grow them on in a lightly shaded position in the greenhouse for at least their first winter. Plant them out into their permanent positions in late spring or early summer, after the last expected frosts.
Grows well in extremely acid soils that are moist but well-drained. Tolerant of shade and woodland edges.
