Melon Queen Anne's Pocket

Melon Queen Anne\'s Pocket

This unusual annual trailing plant with highly aromatic, ornamental fruit is also known as Plum-Granny and has been grown for at least 1000 years. This melon is native to Persia and Linnaeus attributed it to Egypt and Arabia. Legend has it that the ladies of the Queen’s court carried the fragrant melon as a perfumed sachet. Grown for their irresistible, sweet fragrance, these 8cm round golden fruits are striped and speckled with dark orange. While edible, this melon is valued more for its scent than its rather flavorless white flesh. Ready to pick in 75 days.

Sow February to May. Sow seeds 1cm deep in pots of free-draining compost. Place in a propagator and keep at a temperature of around 20-25C until germination, usually 5-7 days. Transplant into the garden into 20-25 days.
